When I open my Facebook account to look into the updates from other people, I find everyone to be super happy in their lives. Everyone seems to be living their dream lives. Someone is happily enjoying being in love with their loved one, some other one seems to be forever on a vacation, someone's enjoying the awesome work culture in his job, someone's already realized what he wants from his life, someone's been blessed with the best baby in the whole world and someone's happily entering into the marriage world. Everyone seems so happy.
Seeing all those happy people we often wonder, why is God always so partial with me. Why is everyone else so happy and why am I the only one who's left far behind others. Why, like others, I could not marry the one I loved? Why can't I afford to visit the places I always dreamed of visiting? Why, even after doing so well in education, I never got picked up by the best work places? Why am I still single? When will I get to start my family? When you are going through the tough times of your life, these questions can be very daunting. Facebook truly leads you to depression at times.
But, is Facebook really showing the true picture of people's real life? Are all those people really happy? Or are they projecting to be happy? Isn't it possible that all those happy people are actually just like others - troubled from within, for reasons may be different?
May be the one who looks happy on Facebook with their partner is actually struggling hard to maintain that relation. May be the person is in reality also happy in the relation, but might be struggling to maintain a work life balance due to highly demanding job. Do we really know?
Yes, Facebook tells us the story about others. But that is never the complete story. The best part about Facebook is that it beautifully covers the ugly side of everyone's life. Because no one projects that side. Everyone wants to look happier than other.
I don't mean that everyone's unhappy. Some people are genuinely happy. But the ugly truth is that most of the people are just trying to LOOK happy, happier and happiest. Because it just takes a click to appear happy or just a status update. Apparently looking happy has also started making people momentarily happy !
